About

Sonia, founder of Hearth & Haven, holding one of her hand-knit chenille blankets

I'm Sonia — mother, craftmaker, knitter, and the hands behind every Hearth & Haven blanket.

I have been knitting and making crafts for as long as I can remember, a passion I'm sure I inherited from my grandmother as I was growing up, as she always had a few balls of yarn nearby.

In a world of mass production, there is something truly special about the handmade. My journey with Hearth & Haven began in the busy moments of motherhood. Having two neurodivergent kids, one with ASD, each with their unique sensory needs, I learned early on how vital the sensory environment is to our sense of well-being. I saw firsthand how the right weight and the grounding texture of a textile could provide a much-needed sanctuary in a world that often feels too loud.

This lived experience became the soul of the Sensory Haven Collection. What began as a mission to create a soothing environment for my neurodivergent kids, evolved into a professional passion for creating blankets that are as beautiful to the eye as they are to the touch. Working with premium yarns, every stitch and texture is chosen not just for its earthy aesthetic, but for its tactile cocooning effect.

Today, I combine this personal purpose with a commitment to sophisticated, timeless design. I hand-knit every blanket in my North Carolina studio. Whether I’m working a delicate piece for the Haven Collection or a custom sensory throw, my goal remains the same: to knit a little piece of calm and perfectly weighted softness that you can wrap yourself in at the end of the day. A cozy haven created just for you.

I never make the same blanket twice, each piece is unique. You’ll recognize my signature stitches and flowers across collections, which is deliberate and it’s how you know a piece is mine. What I never repeat is the pattern and color combination. Every combination is mixed exactly once: when your blanket leaves my studio, that combination retires with it, and the piece you hold becomes the only one of its kind made by me.

Each blanket is hand-finished in my studio with meticulous attention to detail, from the final tuck of the yarn to the signature leather tag that marks its origin. These are not just home accessories — they are heirloom pieces designed to bring a quiet warmth to your space, a fusion of timeless craft and modern luxury.
